K-9 Koda. Is well-trained dog very popular in the Middletown, CT community. He is part of the Police K-9 Unit. In a team effort with his handler, Officer Bloom, Koda helps making the community a safer place to live, assisting the Police Department by building searches, locating missing persons, evidence recovery, apprehending fleeing criminals, narcotics detection, crowd control and also public relations and education by conducting demonstrations throughout the community.
K-9 Koda is a sable colored German Shepherd born in Holland on August 23, 2014. Koda and Officer Bloom were graduates of the Connecticut State Police K-9 Academy (Class 184). This certified Koda in tracking, building searches, evidence recovery, obedience and apprehension. Officer Bloom and Koda are currently in training with the North American Police Work Dog Association for a certification in Narcotics Detection. Since graduating from the K-9 Academy in December 2016, Koda is a responsible for locating numerous fleeing suspects as well as mentally impaired/ suicidal individuals. He had also been instrumental for numerous narcotics arrests. Team Koda is assigned to the evening shift Patrol Division. In his spare time, Koda enjoys hiking with his 4-legged brother Dez, staying in shape, training to get his red Kong ball reward and barking at the mailman.
